Stephanie Williams, a sophomore at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas followed the footsteps of her mother who volunteered twice in an AIDS orphanage in Ethiopia. Stephanie applied to become a volunteer at the House of Angels in Romania. Her motivation for volunteering came from her passion for people and making them feel loved. She did just that with the staff and children at the House of Angels. Her touch on the House of Angels will never be forgotten. Right as she arrived, we took in 19 children from the adjacent disabled orphanage as they began a remodel and needed our help to care for the children while the construction was going on. We were so lucky to have Stephanie arrive in time to assist!

Stephanie dreams of some day going for a longer trip to serve orphaned chidren. Her experience is best described in her own words: “My trip to Romania was by far the most amazing experience of my life thus far. I cried leaving, and everyday I wake up and miss it. Thanks for the amazing opportunity! I will be trying to go back over spring break so March 2010!”

Everyone at the House of Angels loved her and will miss her very much. It is amazing when volunteers can make such an impact in the lives of not only the children, but the staff. We thank Stephanie for her dedication and service to the House of Angels.

Stephanie wrote a very touching letter when she left the House of Angels:

“My lovely Romanian family,
First of all I would like to say I have fallen head over heels in love with each of you. In the moment I stepped off the plane and saw Gelu (HOA Administrator) with a sign with my name on it, I have been in love with Romania. Gelu – thanks so much for all your help. The last two weeks have been incredible and I will miss all of the coffee and all the love. You already made me feel at home. To my wonderful doctor friend – thank you for letting me help and for the tour of Targoviste. To the children – may God bless you and keep you forever on his loving hands. I will miss all of your smiles. Simona – you are an inspiration ! I promise to return and to speak some Romanian! See you next May!

Love always and forever, hugs and kisses
Stephanie Williams”
